During an interview on Sirius XM radio, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety T.J. Ward openly expressed what went wrong last season with the Bucs during his time in Tampa. Ward wasn’t the least bit shy about blaming the Buccaneers and the coaching staff for his struggles and lack of production in 2017. In fact, Ward said he wasn’t allowed to be the player he wanted to be which contributed to his poor campaign.

The Bucs signed Ward to a deal after he was released by the Denver Broncos in hopes that he would provide a much-needed upgrade and veteran presence to the safety corps. That unfortunately wasn’t the case, however. Instead, Ward finished the season with zero interceptions, zero forced fumbles and just 30 tackles.

As a result, the Bucs declined to re-sign Ward and he is still readily available in free agency and waiting to land a job before the season kicks off. According to Ward though, the Bucs are the ones to blame for his struggles. Nevertheless, he’s thrilled for what he hopes to be a new opportunity with a new team this upcoming season and a chance to live up to his potential.
